The queer scene of Rome might be one of the most interesting and controversial ones out there since it is the domicile of the Pope and the Catholic church. But opposites attract, don’t they? Although homophobia is omnipresent on the streets of Rome I have seen a change since I first moved to the city in 2004 and the scene has become more and more popular. Young people answer back whether it be with the gaypride, festivals, bars, clubs and gayfriendly hotels.
The “QueeЯome” series portrays Rome’s GLBT artists and locations since 2006. Commissioned projects and personal art work includes the production and art direction of calendars, personal artists books, art exhibitions, backstage photography and video productions.
In 2009 I co-produced, co-directed and interpreted the documentary film “Trukulutru! e il sogno azzurro delle principesse“ which talks about the lesbian scene in Italy, especially in Rome. I therefore interviewed diverse personalities of the show business (Barbara Alberti), of politics (Paola Concia, Imma Battaglia, Titti De Simone), of nightlife (GayVillage) but also common people and places, demonstrations (Gay Pride) and women’s hotspots. Check it out on FACEBOOK and watch the trailer of the film HERE.
